MCA Debt Relief For Contractors, Builders & Trade Businesses

You carry the cost of every job before the owner pays a dime. Materials, crew, equipment rentals, insurance and bonding all come first. Then come pay apps, 45 day terms and retainage you might not see until closeout.

A merchant cash advance can cover that gap for a few weeks, but daily payments and draw schedules don't mix. We help contractors bring their MCA payments in line with when they actually get paid, and take the funder calls off your plate so you can stay on the job.

Why Contractors Get Squeezed Even When They're Busy

Construction is one of the few businesses where growing can actually hurt your cash. A bigger job means more materials and more crew up front, and the money comes in weeks after the work is done. Add retainage, a slow GC or a disputed change order, and it piles up fast.

That's why so many contractors end up with MCAs. They fund fast and they don't care about your backlog. But a funder pulling every business day doesn't care that your draw got pushed to next month either. The payment comes out regardless.

We put together seven cash flow tips for contractors waiting on payment that are worth a read either way.

Where The Money Actually Is On A $420,000 Job

Halfway through a commercial buildout, the job looks great on paper. Here's how much of it the contractor can actually use.

JOB #2417

Retail Buildout, Phase 2

Contract$420,000
  • Paid to you$189,000
  • Pay app approved, waiting on payment (net 45)$75,600
  • Retainage held until closeout (10%)$29,400
  • Work left to bill$126,000

You've earned $105,000 on this job that you can't touch yet.

Meanwhile, your advance takes $650 every business day
  • $3,250 a week
  • $14,300 a month
  • The same amount whether the draw came in or not

Why Daily Debits And Draw Schedules Don't Mix

A daily debit assumes money comes in every day. Contractors get paid in chunks, usually 30 or more days apart. So in the weeks between draws, the advance gets paid out of whatever's left after payroll and suppliers, and some weeks there isn't anything left.

When that happens, a lot of owners take a second advance to cover the first until the next draw lands. It works once. Then the next job runs long, and now there are two daily payments against the same slow draw. That's where most of our contractor clients are when they call us.

Common Questions Contractors Ask About MCA Relief

Can I keep working my current jobs?

Yes. You keep working, billing and getting paid like normal. Nothing about the program should slow down your jobs.

Will this affect my bonding?

It can come up, so tell us about your bonding on the consultation. We'll plan with your surety relationship in mind and talk through anything that could affect it before you decide.

My funder filed a UCC on my receivables. Can you still help?

Yes. Almost every MCA comes with a UCC filing. It doesn't stop us from working with the funder, and if they've already sent notices to your customers, that's one of the first things we'll deal with.

Will the GC or my customers find out?

Usually not. We work with your funders directly and your customers don't need to be involved. If a funder has already contacted them, we'll tell you how we plan to handle it.

My work is seasonal. Can the plan handle slow months?

It should. We look at your revenue across the year, not just your busy season, and build the plan so it still works when the jobs slow down.

Is this the same as bankruptcy?

No. Bankruptcy is a court process. Our program is worked out directly with your funders outside of court, and your business keeps running the whole time. If bankruptcy might honestly be a better fit for you, we'll say so and suggest you talk to a bankruptcy attorney.

Will this affect my credit?

It can. Restructuring or settling debt may show up on your credit, and some funders report missed payments. We'll go over what to expect on your consultation so nothing catches you off guard. Most owners we talk to are more worried about keeping the business open than about their score, but it's your call to make.
